Record Type
A Record Type in CRM is a configuration that allows the same object — such as an Opportunity, Account, or Case — to behave differently for different business scenarios, displaying different fields, using different picklist values, and applying different page layouts depending on the context. A software company might have separate opportunity record types for New Business, Renewal, and Expansion deals — each with fields and stage sequences appropriate to that motion. A service company might have different case record types for Incident, Service Request, and Bug Report. Record types allow a single CRM data model to serve multiple business process variants cleanly, without the complexity of maintaining entirely separate objects for each scenario.
