Opportunity Value

Opportunity Value — also called deal amount, deal size, or expected contract value — is the estimated monetary worth of a sales opportunity if it closes successfully. It is the most fundamental input to pipeline valuation and revenue forecasting: the pipeline value for any period is the sum of all opportunity values weighted by close probability or forecast category. Maintaining accurate opportunity values requires discipline: reps who inflate deal values to appear successful, or who fail to update values as deals are renegotiated, create forecast data that misleads business planning. CRM platforms can enforce value ranges, require supporting justification for values above thresholds, and flag opportunities whose values have not been reviewed within defined timeframes.
