Master Data

Master Data refers to the core reference entities that define a business's operational universe — customers, products, accounts, employees, territories — maintained as a single, authoritative version that all connected systems share. In a CRM context, account and contact records are primary master data objects: they must be maintained with high accuracy and consistency because every other record — deals, cases, invoices, partner relationships — is linked to them. When master data is managed poorly — with duplicates, inconsistent naming conventions, or outdated information — the downstream effect propagates across every system that depends on it, making reliable reporting, integration, and customer experience impossible.
