Master Data Management (MDM)

Master Data Management (MDM) is the discipline of creating, maintaining, and governing a single, consistent, authoritative version of an organization's core reference data — customers, products, accounts, geographies — across all connected enterprise systems. In complex organizations with multiple CRM instances, ERPs, marketing platforms, and regional systems, MDM ensures that when an account is created or updated in one system, the change propagates correctly to all others. Without MDM, the same customer may exist with different data in five systems simultaneously, making accurate reporting, coordinated service delivery, and regulatory compliance impossible. MDM is increasingly implemented as a platform capability rather than a manual process, with dedicated MDM software governing data flows between systems.
