Forecast Category

Forecast Category is a classification applied to individual deals in a CRM that indicates a sales representative's confidence level in closing the deal within the current forecast period — independent of the deal's pipeline stage. Common categories include Commit (the rep is confident this deal will close), Best Case (it could close with the right conditions), Pipeline (it is in the pipeline but uncertain), and Omitted (excluded from the forecast). Forecast categories provide a qualitative overlay on top of quantitative pipeline data, giving sales managers a more nuanced input for period-end revenue projections. The reliability of forecast category data depends on the quality of coaching conversations where managers challenge reps' assessments against deal evidence.
