Field Mapping
Field Mapping is the process of defining how data fields in one system correspond to fields in another — establishing the translation rules used when data is moved, synchronized, or integrated between a CRM and connected platforms. During a CRM implementation or migration, field mapping documentation specifies which source field becomes which target field: 'Company' in the source maps to 'Account Name' in the CRM; 'Deal Value' maps to 'Opportunity Amount'; custom fields are mapped individually with data type validation. Errors in field mapping — a currency value mapped to a text field, a date format mismatch — cause data to load incorrectly and can generate widespread data quality issues that are expensive to remediate post-migration.
