Encryption

Encryption is the process of transforming readable data into an encoded format that can only be accessed by parties with the appropriate cryptographic key. In enterprise CRM deployments, encryption protects sensitive customer and commercial data at two critical points: data at rest (information stored in the CRM database or attached files) and data in transit (information moving between the user's browser and the server, or between the CRM and integrated systems). For organizations handling regulated data — financial records, healthcare information, or personal data subject to GDPR — the specific encryption standards a CRM vendor implements, the key management model, and the availability of customer-managed encryption keys are all material compliance considerations.
