Data Mapping

Data Mapping is the process of defining how data fields from one system correspond to fields in another — establishing the translation rules used when moving or synchronizing data between a CRM and connected systems. During a CRM migration, for example, the 'Company Name' field in a legacy system must be explicitly mapped to the 'Account Name' field in the new CRM; the 'Contact Email' field must map to the CRM's email field; custom fields require individual mapping decisions. Errors in data mapping lead to misplaced data, integration failures, and reporting inaccuracies. Well-documented data mapping is also essential for troubleshooting integration issues and maintaining data consistency as systems are updated over time.
