Custom Field
A Custom Field is a user-defined data attribute added to a CRM record type — such as an account, contact, lead, or opportunity — to capture information that is specific to a company's business processes and is not covered by the platform's standard fields. Every organization has unique data requirements: a manufacturing company may need to capture machine model types on account records; a healthcare vendor may track regulatory compliance status. Custom fields are the mechanism by which a CRM platform adapts to a business's specific context rather than forcing the business to adapt to the platform's defaults. The ability to add, configure, and report on custom fields without developer intervention is a key criterion for CRM flexibility evaluation.
